Introduction to Light and Shadow
(With the option to opt to study Line instead)
Service Description
This workshop teaches you the essential principles of light and shadow that professional artists use, helping you develop an intuitive understanding of form and dimension. From this basis you will have an understanding of what is behind realistic artwork, ones that effectively capture light and life and produce a convincing representation of the 3d dimensional world on a flat paper surface. With these theoretical and practical tools you will be in a much better position to draw anything beautifully. There's a small amount of optional preparation work you can carry out before you attend this class. That exercise will be forwarded via email after you have signed up. Bring this completed study with you on the day for discussion. After this 2 hour hours has passed, you will have a complete understanding as to how light works on a form and be able to apply graphite in a way that produces smooth shadows. All materials are supplied although you're very welcome to bring your own if you have some fancy bit of kit you want to show off or try out. If you would rather improve your powers of visual perception then you can also opt for the Sight Size lesson which will run alongside this introduction to Light and Shadow. Suitable for all levels / 12+ years old students welcome. Under 11 learners are also welcome as we have a separate, less advanced lesson they can work with. Refreshments are also included. How lovely!
